Young Arts Projects

The Arts Society Mid Kent funds art projects for children and young people in local schools and the local community, as part of our continuing aim to encourage interest and enjoyment in the Arts.

During 2019 we provided £175 for Kingswood Explorers (Scouts) to design and decorate enough new mugs for their scout hall.

A design and make session was held at This Art of Mine studio, for young people aged between 8 and 16 years old, from troubled backgrounds. We paid £500 for the session, which enabled the young people to design and make t-shirts and mugs in a calm and vibrant studio environment and under expert tuition.

Staplehurst Primary School is being funded for an after -school club. This involves outreach sessions via Hugh Christie School, to create 5 separate works based on the 5 letters forming the school’s main ethos – PRIDE. Small groups of students will be working in a range of techniques and processes, with each outcome demonstrating a different skill and theme. Our £500 funding should be sufficient to provide weatherproof display cases for external exhibition around the school and to pay for some of the art materials.

A weaving workshop has been held recently at St. Francis Primary School in Maidstone, in celebration of their Arts Week. Our funding for this activity was £400.

We continue to support a 3rd year student at UCA Medway, with a £2000 bursary. Further activities are in the pipeline.

We hope to extend the range of funded activities to include performance art in schools and are always keen to hear about similar projects locally that we might be able to support. If you know of any, please get in touch.

Earlier examples of work we have supported locally are available on this page.
